Last weekend the Washington Post published an analysis showing how the notorious Stuxnet worm could become the model for a cyber attack on US infrastructure.
The article quotes former US energy regulators and industry experts who share concerns about future cyber weapons that use Stuxnet as the blueprint to cause devastating physical damage to the US power grid.
The article goes on to say that the industrial controller devices that are vulnerable to the worm and its future variants are present in a wide range of industrial control systems – from water sanitation to oil pipelines to nuclear plants.
As we’ve said before, now is the time for Congress to draft the targeted legislation needed for our utilities to act responsibly with respect to their safety- and ours.
